VOLTCASE TATOO VOODOO KITTEN INTERVIEW:
Hello! Welcome to Voltcase's brand spanking new fashion section, how are things?
Thanks for having Tattoo Voodoo Kitten! Things are going great! The New Year has already brought good and promising things for TVK.
If you were talking to a stranger, how would you describe yourself in three words:
“Rockabilly with Sass”
So, tell us about what you do then:
My name is M and I am the one-woman-shop for Tattoo Voodoo Kitten. I design and make custom handbags, flower hair clips and apparel for all the dolls out there. TVK goes by the tag line, “Rockabilly with Sass” but I not only cater to the rockabilly crowd but also the psychobilly and alternative crowds.
Here at Voltcase Towers, our fashion seems to be stuck in the early 90's, with a lot of ripped jeans and faded old band t-shirts going on. What's the first thing we should do to jazz ourselves up a bit?
This is why I started Tattoo Voodoo Kitten, because of the fashion nonsense out in the world today. Definitely burn the 90’s ripped clothing! Go back further in fashion history to a time when attire was classy but still had an a bit of an attitude to show the sass, punk or funk that is deep within your soul.
Alternative culture is littered with potentially taboo imagery, like the hot rod iron cross or the infamous Sid Vicious Swastika shirt, do you have any personal guidelines on what you will / wont utilize, or is anything fair game?
Tattoo Voodoo Kitten’s guidelines are easy. Simplicity, uniqueness, and the ability to stand out in the general public. TVK wants to attract attention in the most unpredictable places. Style and originality is the standard staple for TVK.
Loud rock n roll plays a big part in our lives here at Voltcase. Do any bands or artists influence you at all, and any you want to name-drop?
Music is a big part of my life and influences the way Tattoo Voodoo Kitten is portrayed. As mentioned TVK is catered to the rockabilly / psychobilly / alternative crowd. TVK is all about showing your wild but yet demure being. Johnny Cash, Social Distortion, Marilyn Manson, Dropkick Murphy’s, The Pogues, The Offspring, The Ramones and AC/DC are on constant rotation during work and play.
So, what's the long term goal - to just continue making cool stuff, or have you got bigger plans, like global domination?
Being that TVK is based in Southern California we are definitely working towards global domination. For 2008 TVK is concentrating on getting attention nationwide here in the US and also in the UK. TVK has garnered a customer base in the UK which I think is phenomenal considering TVK has only been around since April 2007!
Any advice for anyone out there thinking of following in your footsteps? Any pitfalls to avoid, for example, or any good resources to check out?
My advice is simple. Write down you dreams and follow your heart. Disregard what others may say in your quest for happiness. What ever you do, do not give up. Make an attempt each day to further completing a task related to your goal. That’s how Tattoo Voodoo Kitten came about.
Why should the lazy general public make the effort to check you out, and what have you got planned for the future?
TVK doesn’t cater to the general public. TVK embraces those individuals who think outside the box. That is the group TVK is a part of, the group we love and the group we represent. TVK personifies the free thinkers of the world. Check out Tattoo Voodoo Kitten at www.tattoovoodookitten.com.
And finally..... what does the word 'Voltcase' mean to you?
To me Voltcase means being able to express yourself the way you want to. No holds barred. The bolder the statement, the better and all in the name of fun! |
