Hi, welcome to Voltcase! How are things!?

Things are always the same with me… busy!  No rest for the wicked!

So, how would you describe yourself to a stranger in just three words?

“This bitch bites!”

Is there anything in particular that sets you apart from all of the other Voltgirl’s we’ve featured in Voltcase over the years?

I’m the first South African alternative model to be published internationally.

Now, on to the modelling – how did it all start for you? Was it something you always wanted to do, or did it just ‘happen’?

I was enrolled in a modeling and deportment school when I was 13.  Finished 3 major diplomas and worked the runway for a few years as teenage model.  I was too short to continue modeling in the commercial market and alternative modeling was non-existent in my country at that stage, so I studied drama instead.  Many years later I dabbled in the music industry a little bit, writing lyrics for a Black Metal project and that’s when I met people all over the world online from the music and alternative modeling industry.  One model in particular, that I am still a great fan of and now also good friends with, Kindra Ravenmoon (who we featured in Voltcase last year, check her out in the archives - Ed), encouraged me to give photographic modeling a shot and I took her advice to heart.  After the first shoot was published on a local modeling site, Myspace and Facebook, the work just poured in.

Do you have any personal guidelines on what you will or won’t do for the sake of a good photo, or is it pretty much anything goes? And if you do have any guidelines, have you ever been in a situation where you’ve had to enforce them?

For a good photo I will do whatever it takes, and I have. I’ve pulled muscles to get into places and defied gravity for the weirdest poses.  I’ve lain down in a thorn bush at an old cemetery and was covered in ants and got an itchy rash afterwards.  I climbed a mountain at 7 in the morning wearing a long medieval dress/corset and huge hairpiece to get to the perfect spot.  I’ve been naked in a coffin in the middle of winter covered in a variety of live snakes. Posed nude in the middle of a public road, hiding behind the tog’s van every time a car comes past.  Been naked in a gnarly butchery freezer among pig carcasses and even did a shot with a dead pig’s head stuck on my face… to mention but a few!  Water is not one of my favourite elements though.  I’ve declined offers to do underwater shoots on more than one occasion, I won’t even try. I’ll get hysterical, swallow a load of water and end up looking like a retarded blowfish on the images.  No thanks to water.

A lot of the models that we chat to here at Voltcase are often actresses, musicians, writers etc as well. Are you concentrating on just the modelling, or is it just one of many things that you do?

All alternative models are naturally creative in every aspect.  So yes, I have other talents.  I’m a published poet and also write lyrics.  I’m a bit of a make-up artist and stylist, really enjoy doing gore effects – getting into the independent horror film industry in the near future.  Also I design and manufacture leather fetish / bondage accessories for Path of Sin and have recently started my own accessory label “SinWear” – Launching on 21 November in Cape Town at a big fashion show.  My product line includes Vanity Hats (mini top hats), Batty Beadz (gothic beaded jewellery), Induztrial Skinz (industrial-type t-shirts) and PurrFallz (cyber goth hairfalls).  I also play a little bass guitar and have done a lot of stage acting in Drama Theatre.  And last but not least, I am starting an apprenticeship as tattoo artist.  To be honest, I’ve stacked way too much hay on my fork, but even tho keeping up with all of my projects are really tiresome,  I enjoy doing it better than my pain-in-the-ass day-job.

We’re all a bunch of geeks at heart here at Voltcase, are you particularly geekie about anything in particular yourself – the more embarrassing the better!?

I’m definitely an old school geek and proud. I still have my  D&D dice and character sheets from back in the day when role playing wasn’t a pc game. I was on the chess team in school and never got further than 2nd place.  Other geeky pastimes include baking, embroidery and floristry.  I have a huge library at home and stick my nose in a book whenever I have time.  I’m the proud owner of an ever-growing McFarlane collection and I love Spongebob Squarepants.  I also like watching WWE on Saturday afternoons and have paid to see more live wrestling events than descent music concerts hehe *blush*

If you were interviewing yourself, what question would you ask yourself? And what would the answer be?

Q: What would you ask for if you were granted three wishes right now?

A:  A case of good red wine, a week off work to catch up on some much overdue sleep and a big fucking gun to shoot at anyone that wakes me up from my drunken slumber!

Loud rock ’n’ roll plays a big part in our lives here at Voltcase, are you a big music fan? Any bands or artists you might want to namedrop for us, or any unknown acts that you think we should check out?

My music taste is rather diverse.  But Ozzy Osbourne will always remain right at the top of the list.  I even have his portrait tattooed on my left calf.  Besides old rock and metal I very much enjoy the Goth side of life and some Industrial and EBM acts are really great.  I must, however mention some of our local S.A. talent – they all have Myspace pages, so go check them out:  Kobus!, Terminatryx, Battery 9, Ankst and Wintersoul.  Then there’s a solo artist and also very good friend of mine, actress and Rock ‘n Roll Diva “Lady Axe” (www.helltic.webs.com)

And finally, the question that we ask everyone that appears in Voltcase - what does the word 'Voltcase' mean?

It’s the “pandora’s box” of all things dark and sinister…
